Mayor B S Sathyanarayana on Sunday announced an allocation of Rs 2.5 crore for overall development of Dorekere lake in Uttarahalli.
He made the announcement during his inspection of the lake on Sunday following death of several silver-line fish in the water body, earlier in the week due to mixing of sewage.
A large number of people from the local residents’ welfare association and morning walkers’ association complained to the Mayor that it was the damage caused to Gowdanpalya Tank Bund and sewage inflow from Kumara Swamy and ISRO Layouts that resulted in fish kill in the lake.
They complained that this would be a perennial problem if sewage line is not separated from stormwater drain.
Action against miscreants
They also demanded that action be taken against those who damaged the Gowdanpalya Tank Bund. The mayor promised that action would be initiated against the miscreants.
Sathyanarayana appreciated the lake division of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike for developing the lake as one of the model water bodies in Bangalore.
He added “Palike will do everything to improve this lake and protect it from encroachment.”
