The Commissioner of Railway Safety S K Mittal on Friday issued safety clearance for the underground stretch of the Namma Metro from the Majestic station to the Cubbon Road station.

With the all-important safety certification being issued, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) will throw open to the public the entire East-West corridor within a fortnight. The 18.2-km East-West stretch from Bayappanahalli to Mysuru Road will pass through Majestic, the city’s nerve centre.

Sources in BMRCL told DH that Mittal had issued the safety certification, imposing a couple of minor conditions and they would fulfil the conditions before starting commercial operations. One of the conditions is that the BMRCL has to obtain fire safety clearance for the underground station at Majestic from the agency concerned before starting commercial operations on the stretch.
