Actor Ravikiran aka Vikas has always liked being a part of the script more than being at the helm as a director. With ‘Kaanadante Maayavadanu’’s shooting on, the actor is busier than ever.
In a candid chat with Tini Sara Anien, the artiste sheds light on his journey as an actor and his latest project.
How did the role come about?
Raj Pathipati and I have been working on this script right after ‘Jayammana Maga’, since 2013. I was working out the details of the project with him, from the stages of the story being a thread to what it has developed to now. We had worked on several versions of the project too. Finally, when this version was finalised, Raj Pathipati told me that I would be playing a prominent role in the project. I was amused and accepted the role.
What made you accept the role?
More than directing, I always wanted to be an integral part of the script and that always kept me going. I have always told myself to stay open to different stories. The whole way the character has shaped up is what made me agree to the role. This will be a unique experience.
Your role is...
I play the role of a conman in the movie. I claim to be a lawyer and have an interesting part to portray. The character moves the story ahead too.
How much has the movie progressed?
Around 25% of the movie is done. We were hoping to be done with the shoot for the project in 45 days, but it has been prolonged.
How different is it to be an actor?
Satiating the director is a difficult task. Comparing to being an actor, when I’m acting I am living someone else’s vision. The director always has a vision about the movie and all its characters. Thus, living up to that can be challenging.
Your chemistry with the crew...
It has been a nice and learning experience. I know Raj Pathipati from a while now. Also I have worked with actor Sindhu Loknath before. Everyone on the set knows her well. (Smiles) Sindhu brings life to the set.
The challenges faced during this project...
(Smiles) Firstly, living up to what Raj Pathipati has in his head. Also, after the final version was finalised, my role included action sequences. I had no clue about this. I had to go for training for three months and this was quite exhausting and physically tiring. (Smiles) I also learnt that one can never beat the master of the art.
How different is this project?
Having acted in other projects like ‘Jackie’ and ‘Kaddipudi’ etc, this is a very different experience. I am playing a more extensive role in the movie, which will drive the story on. The audience will be on the edge of their seats at this point.
Are you excited or nervous?
It’s a mix of both. This movie will be a unique experience for all.
