Organised to create awareness to bring back the sparrows in residential neighbourhoods of the City, speakers at the seminar said the population of the sparrow is fast diminishing due to rapid urbanisation.
Environmentalist Suresh Heblikar said, “Pruning and cutting of bushy trees in the City is one of reasons of migration of these birds and the subsequent drastic reduction in their number.”
Rotary Bangalore West President Rtn C S Prasannakumar, a scientist , distributed unique sparrow nest boxes to all participants at the seminar here.
The sparrow nest is an adopt-a-bird kit that can be easily mounted on walls, trees or on poles to attract birds to come, feed and also nest. The Society distributes them to motivate people to be bird-friendly.
