Bengaluru: A security guard has been arrested for allegedly stealing around Rs 11 lakh from his employer, officials said on Tuesday.

Narayanaswamy, who hails from Chikkaballapur, had been employed at an audit firm in Jayanagar for nearly a year, police said.

On September 20, he allegedly stole Rs 10.95 lakh from an office drawer and fled. The Siddapura police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Six days later, on September 26, Narayanaswamy was arrested near Banaswadi. Police also recovered a car in his possession.

During questioning, Narayanaswamy confessed to the theft, revealing that he used the stolen money to purchase a Hyundai car, a Vivo smartphone, two gold rings, gold jewellery and a Fastrack wristwatch, all amounting to Rs 5.48 lakh. The police recovered Rs 3.5 lakh in cash from the car.

Further investigations are on, and the suspect has been remanded to judicial custody.
