Over the years, many changes have been taking place in the fashion industry, and it is amazing to see how each of these trends takes the fashion world by storm — from styles that are common to both genders to trends that dominate a specific one.
One such style, much adored by women, is the bodycon dress. With its sleek and feminine look, this style is something that has attracted a lot of attention over the years and everyone, regardless of their body type, wants to try it once.
Rohit Rajput, a student of fashion designing at Army Institute of Fashion and Design, says that the bodycon dress is perfect for both the voluptuous or the size zero figure.
However, one needs to be careful while sporting a bodycon dress as it doesn’t forgive the extra slice of pizza or the scoop of ice cream from last night.”
“The most important thing to remember is being confident and bold while carrying off a bodycon dress. The rest will be taken care of by the accessories,” he adds.
Looking at this dress type as a trend that makes one look effortlessly graceful, designer Sakshee Pradhan feels, “Bodycon dresses make a woman look more sophisticated and slim. This particular style makes one look simple yet alluring. One can pair it with high heels and make sure they use minimalistic accessories.” Though she thinks this style is trending, she doesn’t recommend that one wears it as a formal attire as she feels it is not suitable for a formal space.
“One can go for a nice formal skirt and shirt with hair tied up.” Though one can wear a bodycon dress made of any material, she suggests that shimmer and velvet are the right materials for a chic look.
Fashionistas are seen experimenting with this dress style and trying out different looks and patterns to go ahead with. According to Nandini Swaminathan, a fashion blogger at Sartorial Secrets, a bodycon dress is the easiest way to look effortlessly chic. Moreover by adding the right kind of accessories like a sling bag and a statement necklace, one can look plain elegant. She explains, “Bodycon dresses are in itself an elegant attire; add the right kind of accessories or throw on a coat and one is good to go! The right kind of cut and silhouette can make anyone look elegant.”
Talking about the trending colours, materials and patterns, she points out that though black remains the standard colour, there are some other desired colours as well. She says, “This season, the most talked about colours include buttercup yellow, rose quartz, peach, grey and iced coffee. Neoprene or scuba material and cotton-lycra blends are the sought-after materials for this dress.” To complete the look, she says a pair of stilettos or T-strap heels can give a completely edgy and classy look.
Considering the bodycon dress look as one of those that should be kept in its natural form, designer duo Priyangsu and Sweta say, “If bodycon dresses are worn with the right attitude and sported on the right occasion, they can make one look beautiful. Moreover, this attire can be sported in a formal space depending on the ensemble.”
“Currently texture detailing bodycon mid-length dresses are in vogue with different fabrics like cotton lycra, tussar and net being extensively used on these outfits. To complete the look, proper accessorising is a must. A pair of earrings or a belt, and if the dress is too vibrant, then a nude clutch can do wonders,” add the duo.
