What could be more merrier for a retired teacher than the warmth and affection of one of his own students?
C J Roy, alumnus of St Joseph’s Indian High School, and the chairman and MD of Confident Group has offered to take care of his old teacher at the school, Leo Anthony Raj, for the rest of his life.
On Sunday, C J Roy was also present for the school reunion 2019, along with other alumni including actor Prakash Raj, Air Marshal Karthik P Nair AVSM (retired) and others.
A nostalgic Roy recollected his old memories of the school. Roy is a 1984 alumnus, who studied in St Joseph’s from 5th to 10th standard.
“Giving back to what I received from the school, I would like to sponsor everything to my teacher Leo Anthony Raj for the rest of his life,” said Roy.
Leo Anthony Raj who currently lives in one of the care homes in Hulimavu was immensely pleased.
“We will be very happy if my father receives care from such a great personality. We would like to bring him home soon,” said Leo Anthony Raj’s daughter Caroline Singh, a teacher herself at St Francis Xavier Girls High School.
Actor Prakash Raj was a vice captain at St Joseph’s school in 1981. He had received the Presidential Scout award in the same year from Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, the sixth President of India. Reviving the best of memories, Prakash Raj said that he is a proud Josephite.
“I was an introvert and meek until I joined the school. St Joseph’s gave me exposure; it empowered me to speak and perform on stage. My scouting experiences in the school are some of the remarkable memories I have. St Joseph’s is warmly present in my heart now, and will be forever,” the actor said.
Karthik P Nair is a 1971 alumnus of the school. He graduated from St Joseph’s college. He shared fond memories during his studentship at the school. “I used to catch a BMTC bus to come to the school. I was such a naughty child back then. My teacher Soubhagya had a tough time indeed. She is my favourite teacher,” he said.
The school alumni committee honored the oldest alumni, Arumugham from 1947 batch and Subramanya from 1949 batch. Over a thousand alumni gathered in the school campus outpouring themselves along with their dearest ones.
