College Principal Dr S Kumar, in a statement, said that the student was suspended from college for cheating in an examination.
Durgesh, a native of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, was found to have indulged in academic misconduct and malpractice during the internal examination of the college. The incident was reported by the Head of Department concerned and was also referred to the disciplinary committee of the college. Kumar says that the committee eventually found the student guilty of the charges, and the student has also confessed in writing to the charges levelled against her.
On Tuesday, on the basis of the recommendation of the disciplinary committee, the candidate was suspended from the academic activities for one term of six months.
The college maintains that a similar policy was adopted by the institution in all other cases of academic misconduct and dishonesty. The college also said: “It is unfortunate that this student took the extreme step and we join the bereaved family in our prayers to the departed soul.”
Kumar said that the body of the student was claimed by her parents, who would take it to Indore for the last rites.
