Thousands marched in support of the ‘I Am Gauri’ protests to condemn the killing of journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh and to resist attacks on free speech and expression.
The event that kicked off earlier today from the majestic railway station has been organised through the efforts of Gauri Lankesh Hatya Virodhi Horata Vedike, a group of writers and thinkers.
Prominent activists such as renowned environmentalist Medha Patkar and social activist Kavita Krishnan led the march to the Central College Grounds in Bengaluru.
Many more writers and thinkers from across the country, including Teesta Setalvad, P. Sainath, Sagarika Ghose, Anand Patwardhan, and Prashanth Bhushan, among others attended the event and addressed the rally there.
Around 500 police personnel were also present at the event to manage the crowd.
Gauri's mother, Indira Lankesh and sister Kavita Lankesh, along with freedom fighter Harohalli Srinivasaiah Doreswamy unveiled the a trbute issue of the Gauri Lankesh Patrike.
Several speakers, including CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury made speeches at the venue.
