After postponing the ceremony twice, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) finally gave away Nadaprabhu Kempegowda awards for the year 2018 on Saturday.
Around 500 achievers from various fields received the award from Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister G Parameshwara. The BBMP also organised Ambedkar Jayanti along with the ceremony.
But the event was a picture of chaos because of the confusion about the list of awardees, a BBMP official said.
“Earlier, the award was given to 200 people, but this time, the BBMP picked 500 people for the award, leading to a confusion,” he added.
Parameshwara said: “This time, there are many winners. I personally do not know what they have achieved in their respective fields. The awards are given to people who have excelled in their respective fields.”
The ceremony was earlier postponed owing to the deaths of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi.
