The team, led by Bangalore City Divisional Conservator of Forests N Devaraju and Assistant Conservator of Forests Jayaram visited the Estate and inspected the chopping off trees. Later, the team ordered counting of the trees.
It had emerged recently that the contractors receiving the tenders for cutting dry and fallen trees were allegedly chopping off green trees as well. According to sources, four eucalyptus trees and a jambul tree were found felled and being transported outside.
The probe team also found that the contractors did not produce the transport license while transporting the chopped trees. The concerned Zonal Forest Officer has instructed the team to find out the number of dry, fallen and recently chopped trees and submit a report in this regard.
Meanwhile, H Mujeeb Ahmad, CEO of Roerich and Devikarani-Roerich Estate Board has lodged a complaint with the Talaghattapura police alleging that trees were being stolen from the Estate. “Unknown persons have stolen four eucalyptus trees and a jambul tree,” he stated in his complaint.
