Bengaluru: A two-wheeler rider was killed in a head-on collision with a BMTC bus in southwestern Bengaluru on Wednesday night, the bus operator said.

The BMTC bus (KA 57 F 3615) was deployed on route number 375 H/5 (Shirke to Jayanagar) when a two-wheeler rider, identified as Anand (36), crashed into it while attempting to overtake it near the BGS bus stop on Dr Vishnuvardhan Road at 8.03 pm.

According to the BMTC, the rider had moved into the oncoming lane of the two-way road and collided head-on with the bus, causing him to fall. He suffered a severe head injury and was taken to BGS Hospital for further treatment. He succumbed to his injuries despite treatment. 

The BMTC said it had provided interim compensation to the deceased's family.
