Speaking at the inauguration of the TTMC in Vijayanagar taken up under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM), he said the proposed TTMCs at Jayanagar, Indiranagar, Hebbal and Malleswaram will be taken up under public-private-partnership. Tender process for the Hebbal TTMC project is complete.

The TTMCs are permanent revenue generators, he said adding that the Vijayanagar TTMC alone was expected to fetch a revenue of Rs 30 crore every year.

The Vijayanagar TTMC will be named as Kuvempu Bus Complex. The TTMCs would act as feeders to Namma Metro and the buses ferrying passengers to these feeder stations would be of the same colour as Namma Metro, Ashoka said.

The minister said the Kengeri terminus has already been named after Kengal Hanumanthiah and the Shantinagar terminus, after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

A sum of Rs 65 crore has been allocated in the Budget as the Transport Development Fund (TDF) and the one per cent tax on vehicles would be utilised for development of traffic and transport sector, he said.

Ashoka said the number of autorickshaws would be increased from the present 85,000 to 1.25 lakh to meet the increasing demand. These new eco-friendly autorickshaws would replace the others.

Located near two upcoming Metro stations, the Rs 58.10-crore Vijayanagar TTMC is one among the 10 TTMCs built with aid under the JnNURM.

Built on an area of 45,200 sq metres, the TTMC has a depot at the basement, a bus terminus with three bus bays and 18 platforms. The building has multi-level car parking facility up to five floors with a capacity to park 325 four-wheelers and 250 two-wheelers. It also hosts several shopping centres, ATMs, food courts, ticket reservation centres, internet cafes and a waiting lounge.
