The water level at the Shiva Balance Reservoir (SBR) again dropped below the minimum level on Sunday, forcing the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) engineers to make repeated requests to Cauvery Neeravari Nigam(CNN) engineers to immediately release water.
A BWSSB engineer says that if the water level keeps dropping, they may have to turn off certain water pumps at TK Halli, Harohalli and Tataguni to avoid dry run due to lack of water supply. This may affect the water supply to the City, the engineer added.
The engineer said that the water level had dropped on April 10 and the Board requested the CNN to immediately release 600 cusecs of water. Although the CNN official promised to release water, it is yet to reach SBR for further supply. Normally, once the water is released from the Krishnaraja Sagar, it takes 72 hours to reach the SBR. Now, it is more than 72 hours, but water is yet to reach. The CNN officials were unavailable to comment on the issue.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, the live storage above silt level at KRS is 2.863 tmc feet, at Hemavathi 3.906 tmc feet, at Harangi 0.73 tmc feet and Kabini had recorded zero. The total live storage above sill level in all the reservoirs is 7.499 tmc feet.
