Being a mother is probably one of the greatest feelings one can experience. However, it does come with a lot of responsibilities. Irrespective of all the toil, motherhood is something many want to experience in their lives.
Metrolife spoke to working mothers in their twenties and this is what they had to say about their experience.
“As a mother, you will have a cheerful life with your kid. Being with them will fill your heart with joy and happiness but it will also get difficult, crazy and stressful at times,” says Chaithra Madhusudhana, Makeup Artist and Engineer. Chaitra had her baby when she was 23 years old and started going back to work after a year. “Working as a mother at any age is difficult and stressful to manage, never a cakewalk but it’s always worth it. When you have your family’s and office’s support, things can get a tad bit easier,” she adds. Parenthood is a collaborative effort, it requires equal involvement says the young mom.
Madhura S, a domestic maid says once you have a baby, you become more caring and cooperative with the in-laws, partner and surroundings. “I had my baby at a very young age when I was 18 years old. When you are that young, you are still figuring things out. It’s a learning experience for you. There is no such thing as the ‘right age’ to have kids, although one should only start planning when they are mentally, physically and financially ready,” she adds.
“In many respects, you leave one version of yourself that you will never meet again. Your life will dramatically get redefined in a span of a few minutes,” says Vinali Kodwani, Youtuber, Blogger and Entrepreneur. Having a baby gives you the most beautiful outlook of your life. Maturity, responsibility, accountability, patience, humbleness will sink into you right after you become a mother, believes Vinali. “You will be extra cautious about anything and everything. Hiccups, coughs and even a sneeze will make you sit right up. The doctor’s number would be on speed dial. Your room would smell of baby powder and diapers. But on the other side, you would realize how an innocent smile can make your day. How their words can light up your mood. How the firsts of everything would make you tear up,” she adds.
Motherhood can often be a bumpy ride.“As a working woman, life gets messier when you have to juggle both personal and professional life. When you are working in an office, you are missing out on a lot of precious moments with your baby. So it's always good to take a break for a while,” says BR Pramodhini, an assistant professor. In Indian society, women are often asked to take up a lot more responsibilities than what they can handle at a very young age, which can cause a lot of stress. Doctors recommend having a baby only when mentally and physically ready.
