The incident took place after the visit of Sarvagnanagar MLA K J George to the spot in the morning. Two separate FIRs by both sides have been registered at Hennur police station in connection with the incident.

General Secretary of the HBR Layout Residents Welfare Association, Aneez Ahmed, has filed a case of assault against Jabeen, the key woman involved in the racket.

According to Aneez, he visited the spot along with BWSSB engineers around 12.30 p.m. “Jabeen along with her associates surrounded me and she caught me by the collar. She tried to beat me up and I ducked. My chest bears her nail marks in the scuffle,” he said.
“One of her supporters wielding a stick rendered some blows on my back,” Aneez charged.

He visited a hospital and has now filed an FIR at Hennur Police Station against the “water mafia,” attaching the medical certificate as a proof of it. “I could not hit her back since she was a woman and so I have gone to the law,” Aneez said.

Confirming details about the FIR, Inspector at Hennur station, Hanumanth Rai, added that Jabeen and her group have filed a case against Aneez and his brothers for attacking them. “We will investigate charges by both the sides,” the inspector added.

Survey promised

MLA George, who visited the spot in the morning, said officials have been asked to conduct a survey in all the houses in the area about the water charges being collected.
“I have asked them to submit a report in three days time. I have also asked the people not to pay anyone money,” he said. The MLA also assured that action would be initiated against those who allegedly demanded payment for water supplied by the government if found guilty.

BWSSB Chief Engineer T Venkataraju said people have been clearly told to pay for the bill provided by the water supply department henceforth and no one else.
