Suspecting foul play, police have detained Anjamma's friend Ashwatha (28).
According to police Anjamma separated from her husband some years ago and returned to her parents’ house at Geretabanabele in Anekal taluk. She met Ashwatha and both started living together in Tirupalya and had a four-year-old son.
On Sunday, Anjamma and Ashwatha got into an argument. Anjamma left home along with her son and jumped into the pond. Ashwatha too jumped after them and tried to save them, but was forced to get out of the pond as he did not know swimming.
The mother and son drowned, the police said.
Youth hacked to death
A 20-year-old youth was hacked to death, allegedly by five friends on 13th Cross, KP Agrahara locality on Monday afternoon.
The police linked the crime to eve-teasing and old rivalry.
Prathap, a resident of Vidyaranyapura had fallen into bad company, and was thrown out of his house by his parents.
He frequently visited his granny's house in KP Agrahara area. On Monday, around 12.30 pm, he was loitering near a drain along with a friend, when the five-member gang set upon him. Pratap ran for his life, but the gang cornered him at the dead-end near 13th Cross and stabbed him repeatedly. He died on the spot.
Prathap's sister Swetha has given a statement to the police and the cops suspect Rajesh and his associates of being responsible for the crime. Search is on for Pratap’s friend Anil.
Love-lorn man kills self
A 30-year-old man was found hanging at his house at Nisarga Layout in Peenya on Monday.Nagaraj, a pushcart vendor, was living with a female relative for the last few years.
Recently, she left him and got engaged to another man. On Saturday, when she came to take her belongings, he pleaded with her not to abandon him, but she refused and left. Police suspect this could have led Nagaraj to commit suicide.
