That is ''Out of Africa'' for you, an exhibition of distinctly African works of art, now on show at Pratima’s Art Gallery on MG Road. The show, which was inaugurated by former minister Rani Satish here on Friday, will last  till August 3.

The featured artists are Anwar Sadat Nakabinge, Christopher Oweycha, David Mzuguno, Dinesh Revankar, Joseph Cartoon, Kayirra Owenttebe, Ruth Nyakundi and Wilson Mwangi Kinyua.

Anwar Sadat is a Ugandan visual artist, whose art represents a passionate journey of life full of hope. He is inspired by personal experiences and these are recreated using various media. His works also address key issues in society. He has joint display of art works every month in Aid Child galleries (Kampala), of which 40 per cent of the sales go to children living with AIDS and disabilities.

In his paintings, Christopher Oweycha combines colours and techniques to express and elicit powerful emotions. Art lovers across have liked his paintings with cubism, which is sought to depict an intellectual and abstract reality.

David Mzugno, born into the Mpare tribe, near the scenic foothills of the Kilamandjaro Region, demonstrates through his works originality in meticulously depicting beautiful scenes of rural life with lush intricate vegetation.

Tinga Tinga art has its roots in the African tradition to decorate the hut walls.

This has been observed especially in south Tanzania, the homeland of the Tinga Tinga painters and Edward Saidi Tingatinga. The paintings were painted by pigments found in nature. The motifs were animals and people. Mzuguno passed away in June, 2010.
