A magistrate court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, his friend Pavithra Gowda and 15 others till August 28. The Kamakshipalya police arrested Darshan and the others in June for the alleged murder of Renukaswamy from Chitradurga.

A well-placed source told Deccan Herald that the investigators had gathered several pieces of evidence, which linked the arrested suspects to the murder.

“Forensic analysis, call records and clothing and other crucial evidence has been gathered,” the source said, refusing to elaborate further.

Darshan and his 12 associates have been at the  Parappana Agrahara for over 50 days, while four others were moved to the Tumakuru district prison. Another source suggested that the four — Karthik, Nikhil Nayak, Keshavamurthy and Ravishankar — may be made approvers for the prosecution.

It is to be noted that Karthik, Nayak, Keshavamurthy and another arrested suspect Raghavendra, the president of Kannada film star Darshan's fan club in Chitradurga, had surrendered before the police on June 10, claiming responsibility for Renukaswamy’s murder over a financial dispute. Police later found the four were lying and further investigations led them to Darshan and others.

While the investigators were finalising the chargesheet, another source told DH that the counsel for Darshan had yet to file a bail application.
