The geoportal provides 3D imaging of earth, with special emphasis on Indian region with medium to high resolution satellite imagery of virtually the entire India, using the remote sensing satellites. Many other features are built in, including 3D terrain and information on many thematic data.
Now the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) has changed the user interface by doing away with the login process. Users can now access Bhuvan without any need of login credentials. Clicking the Enter Bhuvan button on the home page (www.bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in) will take the user to the 3D globe page where all the functionalities of Bhuvan can be explored.
The change came about after many users complained that they were being directed to the same page repeatedly after logging in. Complaints have also been made about the system hanging frequently, inability to edit data for a given location, having to run it only on a browser and not as a desktop application.
While these problems are yet to be addressed, Bhuvan will now have some additional features like 5.8 m resolution seamless data for entire Indian region, global coverage of 56m resolution data from IRS-P6 (Australia, New Zealand, Madagascar, Africa, South America, North America, Europe).
Near real time weather parameters for India from ISRO’s automatic weather stations and a wide variety of thematic and disaster specific information will also be available.
A Bhuvan 2D viewer, ocean related services and updated thematic information will also be added shortly.
