Progressive thinker Prof G K Govinda Rao on Tuesday here lambasted Bhyrappa for calling ‘leaders’ as nuisance rather than ‘people of Karnataka’ in his clarification, at an interaction organised jointly by Karnataka Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagrutha Vedike and Dalita Hindulida Alpasankhyata Samanvaya Vedike, Mysore.
“By terming the leaders as nuisance, Bhyrappa has again insulted the people”, said Govinda Rao. With this, he has proven that he is also a bad logician, apart from being a litterateur of poor standard.
Continuing his tirade against Bhyrappa, Govinda Rao in a mocking tone asked: “Why does he have a liking for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, and not for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar?” Govinda Rao himself had the answer for the poser; Nitish treated muslims on par with other communities, and didn’t plan a pogrom to eliminate them, unlike Modi.
On Pejwar Mutt Seer Sri Vishveshatheertha’s visit to Dalit colonies, Govinda Rao said the religious leader should have instead cleansed internal untouchability practiced by the brahmins.
“It’s only untouchability practiced in open is brought under the purview of Constitution, not internal practice,” said Govinda Rao.
Saying that the seer himself had defended his visit was aimed at retaining such lower castes in Hinduism, Govinda Rao said ‘it gives credence to the fact that the upper castes don’t treat them (lower castes) as human beings’.
Govinda Rao charged Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS) and BJP as upperclass outfits and parties respectively. It’s only because a section of people belonging to backward classes and minorities, and also women, BJP is still on the horizon. Or else, the party will reduce to zero and will be wiped out in the State.
Taking a strong exception to non-brahmins allegedly performing ‘urulu seve’ on the plantain leaves of the left out food of brahmins at Kukke Subramanya Swamy Temple, Govinda Rao exhorted dalit and other like-minded organisations to launch protests.
If one type of protest could be expressed by demonstrating in public, another could be by imparting education among the people who have been walking into it willingly in the name of blind beliefs.
Moved by the photographs of the practice released to the media by Karnataka Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagruta Vedike President K S Shivaramu, Govinda Rao on a poignant note said; whats’ more pathetic is people watching ‘urulu seve’ and it denotes the sleaze that has corrupted our minds.
He also criticised the restrictions on female devotees visiting Ayyappa Swamy Temple that prohibits those in the age group of 16 to 50 years.
Noted litterateur Prof Kalegowda Nagawara lamented though such practices are on rampant, the authorities are yet to wake up. It can be attributed to many reasons.
