A BJP leader, who was arrested for ruckus during the elections to the posts of president and vice president of the PLD Bank here on September 6, has died on Wednesday.
Mukkappa Mukkannavar (52) had collapsed in the Bagalkot district prison on Sunday. He was rushed to the district hospital, where he failed to respond to treatment and died three days later. Mukkannavar had suffered brain haemorrhage following high blood pressure. His condition was critical during the admission stage. He failed to respond to treatment and died, said doctors of the District Hospital.
A group of people had raised objections to the presence of Congress leader Vijayanand Kashappanavar during the election on September 6.
A few people had vandalised the former MLA’s car and a police jeep. Vijayanand had suffered injuries in stone-throwing incident. Mukkannavar and nine others were arrested for creating ruckus during the PLD Bank elections. The accused were remanded in judicial custody. Tension has gripped Hungund town following the death of Mukkannavar. Additional police personnel have been deployed as a precautionary measure.
