The district’s progress under the scheme has not crossed 29 per cent!
Negligent officials
The negligence of the officials at the district, taluk and gram panchayats is the reason behind the failure of the scheme and also has an impact on the development of the district leaving the district to stand at 21st position in the state.
The district-level awareness and supervising committee meeting of Centre sponsored projects that was held in Chamarajanagar on Thursday exposed the facts and figures.
MP R Dhruvanarayana expressed his displeasure over the same and issued a deadline of three months to achieve 80 per cent works.
ZP joint secretary Guduru Bheemasene said there are funds of Rs 36 crore in the zilla panchayat and approval has been given to 8,387 works in the current year. Out of this, 779 works are complete and 5,206 works are in progress and Rs 10.65 crore has been spent for the purpose.
Brisk works are being carried out since the past two months and if the taluk panchayat executive officers show more interest expected results can be achieved. Responding to this Dhruvanarayana said when compared to other districts, the border district is lagging behind and directed the authorities concerned to complete the works at the scheduled time.
Reason for failure
MLA R Narendra who spoke said, workers do not attend work as the wages were not paid to the workers during the year 2009-10, that is also the reason for the failure of the scheme, he said.
Deputy commissioner K Amaranarayana, ZP president K Rajeshwari and vice president M Siddaraju were present.
