Boy dies, 40 ill after drinking polluted water

Ravi (14), who was admitted to the government hospital on Friday night, died in the wee hours of Saturday.

An orphan, Ravi was raised by his grandmother at Narahalli in the taluk. After being treated at the Primary Health Care Centre at Jakkanahalli in the taluk he was told to move to the Epidemic Diseases Hospital in Mysore.

However, he breathed his last in the wee hours of Saturday. More than twenty people are being treated at the taluk hospital for symptoms of diarrhoea. Sakamma (45), Chikknigamma (60), Sanjay (4), Vijay (3), Budagalaiah (40) and Shankaraiah (45) of Narahalli village have been shifted to Epidemic Diseases Hospital in Mysore.

Medical officers and staff of the PHCs have set up a camp at Narahalli village in the wake of the outbreak of the epidemic. The team is examining every family in the village.

Also, a temporary care centre has been opened in the village. District Medical Officer Dr T N Mari Gowda visited the village. Enraged residents of Narahalli village assaulted Halebidu Gram Panchayat Secretary Rangaswamy accusing him of negligence.
