A five-year-old leopard was killed on the spot when it was hit by a bus while crossing the Konanakere-Talubetta Road near the foothills of Male Mahadeshwara Talubetta on Friday night.
A group of devotees travelling in an auto rickshaw to the Male Mahadeshwara Hills, spotted the leopard lying on the road. They alerted the Forest officials, who arrived on the scene and inspected the leopard. The wild cat had received serious injuries on its head and rear leg.
Youth trampled to death
Ramesh (20), a resident of Uyilunatta village, was crushed to death by a herd of pachyderms in the Kollegal reserve forests under the PG Palya gram panchayat limits on Saturday. He strayed into the forests in search of a missing cow, when he was confronted with a herd of 10 pachyderms.
He tried to escape, but in vain. When the villagers heard about the incident, they alerted the forest officials, who burst crackers to disperse the pachyderms.
