Cashew industry workers have warned of staging a protest from August 1, if the cashew industries fail to implement the revised minimum wages as per the government notification, before July 31.

Speaking to mediapersons in Mangaluru on Friday, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) state president Vishwanath Shetty said that discussion was held during the executive committee meet recently. “The government had issued a notification on April 2018, to implement minimum wages. But, the cashew industries have not been valuing the government notification and are not providing minimum wages,” he said.

“There are around 192 cashew industries, registered under the Factory Act, in the state. Nowadays, the labourers are not getting more work due to the use of machines. Cashew industry workers are also worried over reduction in the salary, denial of leave facilities and so on. If the revised minimum wages are not provided before July 31, the workers will go on a stir from August 1,” Shetty warned.

Association secretary Gopalakrishna, members K P Shetty, Saraswathi, Jayanti, Shobha, Suresh and Sumati were present.
