The State will soon have a Cauvery Tourism Development Authority to promote tourism in the Cauvery river basin spread over Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu and Ramanagara districts.

Responding to a question raised by the JD(S) member Sandesh Nagaraj in the Legislative Council on Friday, Minister for Tourism R V Deshpande said Rs one crore had been earmarked for setting up of the new Authority.

A proposal of Rs 60 crore has been sent to the Centre for the development of Mysuru, Mandya, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar as part of the Cauvery Mega Tourism Circuit, he added.

“The government has also decided to attract private investments in 46 tourist destinations in the State. We have received interest from six to seven corporate firms in this regard,” he said. As many as 319 tourist destinations across Karnataka have been identified for development, said the minister.
