Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (CGWWA), also known as Tatrakshika, celebrated 'Tatrakshika Day' with the theme of Swachh Bharat and Swachh Sagar at Thannirbhavi beach on Wednesday.
The aim of the programme was to sensitise the Coast Guard fraternity and the society to clean India by maintaining clean sea, clean shores and clean environment.
Tatrakshika organisation is formally setup, run and managed by the wives of Coast Guard Personnel since November 29, 1994. The motto of Tatrakshika is 'Self Help' and every member voluntarily contributes her time, talent and skills towards improving the quality of life within the Coast Guard community. Tatrakshika has grown into a multirole organisation rendering service to the society, the needy and also its own members.
Tatrakshika is a highly active and vibrant organisation which has been regularly extending support to old age people, orphans, cleanliness drives and many other social and communal causes.
Tatrakshikas of Mangaluru, Karwar and Bengaluru celebrated the Tatrakshika Day by spreading the message of social welfare and upliftment.
Sixty women belonging to the Coast Guard Mangaluru fraternity came together and engaged in a cleanliness drive at Tannirbhavi beach. The waste mainly consisted of plastic bottles, food wrappers, polythene bags and household garbage. The collected waste was handed over to a garbage pickup vehicle.
The members also engaged in games like musical chairs, throwing the ball, filling water into glass etc with an aim to build team spirit and cohesiveness.
Deputy Inspector General S S Dasila, Commander, Coast Guard Karnataka accompanied by Coast Guard officers, was also present.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commander said "Tatrakshika has been engaging in social causes including cleanliness campaigns, Swachh Bharat and Swachh Sagar as derived by the vision of Director General Indian Coast Guard."
