The district administration has erected a chain link mesh around the disputed burial site located opposite Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swami Dargah on Chandragiri Mountain in the district.
The barbed wire fence around the burial ground had been removed and was replaced with a six-foot chain link mesh to prevent people from sneaking into the crematorium.
Nirmithi Kendra Project Director Ramakrishne
Gowda said the mesh has been installed at a total
cost of Rs 7.5 lakh.
Earlier, one could sneak into the crematorium by bending the rusted barbed wire fence. But, now, it is virtually impossible to sneak through the iron rods and meshes, he said.
During Datta Jayati in December 2017, miscreants had jumped the fence to enter the burial ground and had created a tense situation. The police had a tough time to manage the crowd.
Following the incident, the district administration had installed a chain link mesh around the burial ground and the ‘jamala’ at the Peetha.

The work on installing the new meshes was completed a week ago. The other related works, such as a generator room and roof repair, will be done shortly, an official of the Religious Endowment Department said.
