He alleged misappropriation of crores of rupees in the same project.
Addressing a news conference on Monday, Ravishankar said that the project was started three years ago and then it was estimated to cost Rs 5.85 crore. Since the works did not complete by the stipulated time, the cost has now shot up to Rs 8 crore.
The substandard works, which are obvious and visible was opposed by the Town Panchayat and during its general body meeting held on 30-09-2009, it even demanded probe into the same unanimously.
Ravishankar said that JD(S) had protested against the same during the beginning of the project itself but local MLA had called the protesters as ‘unemployed’ and ‘anti-development’. He said that the MLA has been pretending as though he has nothing to do with the sub standard works.
He said that elected representatives are talking of road widening only to scare the people away and unfortunately the officials are also playing along. “If the alternate roads are developed there will be absolutely no need for widening the main road,” he said and added that Deputy Commissioner must plan the project after discussing it over with the political parties, organisations, senior citizens, traders etc.
