MLA Raghupathy Bhat said that maintaining cleanliness and hygiene should be the core responsibility of every individual in society.
Speaking after releasing poster for the Central government-sponsored Swachh Survekshan Grameen-2018 programme on Saturday, the MLA said that the cleanliness drive is introduced at all levels including the rural areas.
“Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is the most ambitious project of the NDA government. As per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country will be garbage-free by 2022. It is an elaborate programme and cannot be achieved easily. Most importantly, there is a need for public cooperation. The programme has proved to be failure. The initiative of the door-to-door collection has also proved less effective. The pubic and the elected representatives should take part and contribute to the success of the programme,” he requested.
He added that the sold liquid resource management programme is also partially effective as the people are not participating. “The public should come forward and to make the drive a successful programme and an everyday affair. The nation would also be declared as an open defecation-free country in the days to come. Each individual should keep her or his surrounding clean and hygiene,” he maintained.
Elaborating over the programme, Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary Srinivas Rao said that the Swachh Survekshan Grameen-2018 is introduced in three phases.
“It is taken up as a part of a survey in the rural areas over the cleanliness and hygienic condition. The programme will have spot visits by independent agencies appointed by the government to the schools, hospitals, anganwadis, shops and religious institutions in the villages. The public are appealed to share their opinions. The interviews and discussions will be held at panchayat-level,” he said.
