It looks like as if the CMC has forgotten the issue of shifting of the private bus stand. For the last few months, the CMC has not raised any question over the issue.

The private bus stand which is situated in the heart of the city is congested. The proposal on shifting the bus stand has remained pending for the last one decade. Owing to the pressure from the Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah, MLA M P Appachu Ranjan, Chief Minister had convened a meeting with the Bangalore Agriculture University. In the meeting, Bangalore Agriculture University had agreed to hand over its three acre land to the proposed bus stand.

When the CMC decided to hand over the construction of the private bus stand to a private person, the Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Maha Sabha District President S P Mahadevappa and others filed a writ in the High Court questioning the construction of star hotel, commercial complex along with the bus stand. The entire process came to a stand still with the writ in the High Court.

The former Commissioner had said that he will ask the court to review the writ. However, now the commissioner has been transferred.

The CMC had planned to construct the bus stand on PPP mode at the cost of Rs 20 to 30 crore.

In the meantime, the Bus Owners Association had raised objections to the shifting the bus stand to the land handed over by the Bangalore Agriculture University. They had urged the authorities to shift the bus stand near General Thimmaiah Circle. The density of the vehicles have increased in the recent years. During his visit to Kodagu, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had said that the government is ready to adopt Kodagu district. While distributing Bhagyalakshmi bonds, the CM had said that the government is ready to provide Rs 400 crore to Rs 500 crore to the district. When the Chief Minister is making so many assurances, why no one is bothered to solve the serious problem in Madikeri,” asks locals.
