Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, president of the BJP district unit, has said that the Congress in the district is in a difficult situation and unable to face voters.
Hegde was addressing reporters in town on Monday and said that members within the Congress themselves had been questioning the discriminating attitude of the Congress.
“The Congress party high command has taken action against rebel candidate Amrith Shenoy for contesting as an independent. The high command, however, did not take any action against Pramod Madhwaraj for defecting from the Congress and joining the JD(S). With the treatment differing from member to member, a sense of impartiality in the Congress has been lost,” claimed Hegde.
He also said that the people of the coastal district would not vote for a JD(S) candidate as Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had not made any budgetary allocation for the region.
“The chief minister has completely neglected Udupi district,” Hegde alleged and added, “That Shobha Karandlaje, the BJP candidate, will win for a second term became evident during our door-to-door visits.”
Elaborating on the party style of campaigning, Hegde said that door-to-door campaigns were being undertaken in the district.
“At least 60 party workers in each booth actively carried out such a campaign. Phase 2 of the campaign will be organised from April 10 to 12. The party leaders and workers will meet intellectual classes and religious leaders to seek suggestions on the matter,” he explained.
Hegde claimed that about 70,000 new voters, especially youth, will support the BJP.
“On April 11, at 4 pm, B L Santhosh, the national joint organisational secretary of the BJP, will participate in an interactive session with intellectual women at the Country Inn and Suits on the DC Office Road, Manipal. As many as 2,000 people each from the five ‘mandalas’ in the district will attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally that has been planned in Mangaluru on April 13,” he listed out.
