Rebel Congress candidate Amrith Shenoy contesting as an independent, raised donations for his electioneering from the public on Thursday.
Amrith Shetty, who was an aspirant for the Congress ticket from Udupi-Chickmagalur Lok Sabha constituency was taken aback when the Congress high command agreed to cede the Udupi-Chickmagalur Lok Sabha seat to JD(S) as per the seat-sharing agreement.
On Thursday, as part of the donation drive, Amrith Shenoy took out a procession from Jodukatte area. He was accompanied by social activist Dr P V Bhandary, RTI activist Yogesh Shet among others.
Amrith who filed his nomination papers on March 26 said that he was fighting the election to express dissatisfaction against the party high command's decision to cede the Udupi-Chickmagalur seat to JD(S).
Amrith Shenoy added that he does not have any selfish motives in contesting the election as an independent candidate. "My conscience told me to do so," he claimed. Appreciating Amrith's decision Bhandary presented him Rs 10,000 on the spot.
