Hundreds of students from nearby Sadvidya, Maharani’s Junior College, Avila Convent and also Marimallappa’s use the road, dodging high density vehicular traffic everyday. Yet there has been no measure to streamline traffic particularly at this junction during peak hours from Agaram Ramaiah Circle (Intersection of N S Road and Rama Vilas Road) towards D Devaraj Urs Road.

In the absence of zebra crossing, the students cross the road risking their lives. Adding to the congestion is the double-side parking between these two junctions.  Most of the students park their two-wheelers on both sides of the road without taking them inside the college premises.

Interestingly, double side parking is not allowed anywhere on this road except near this junction.

When Deccan Herald spoke to Sadvidya College Principal Prof K V Satyan, he said that the college allows only mopeds to be parked inside the college and disallows parking of other vehicles.

Explaining, Prof Satyan said that the measure has been taken to dissuade students from bringing motorcycles. He said that students studying in the college are between 16 and 17 years, an age at which the law doesn't allow them to ride motorbikes.

Expressing his helplessness, Prof Satyan said that despite repeatedly informing parents to refrain to buying motorbikes to children, his advise is rarely heeded to.

Some parents even say, they are the ones buying the bike for them, who is he to ask? he mentioned sadly. "Inside the college I can impose restrictions on them, but once they are outside how can I ask them?" he questions back.

It is to be seen if the police will take any measures to ensure that no unfortunate accidents take place on N S Road by deploying at least one policeman to check parking of two-wheelers on both the sides to allow smooth flow of traffic.

Also the double-side parking is acting as an incentive to under aged students to ride motorcycles. Are the traffic police authorities listening?
