Udupi Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati who has been encouraging government officials to use public transport at least once a week, set an example by using the public transport to commute from home to the DC building on Thursday.
Korlapati walked the talk by boarding the bus with Additional Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari and other district-level officials from the house to the office.
Hephsiba Rani Korlapati took the public bus to return home. She declared that every Thursday she would use public transport to commute to work.
Korlapati boarded the bus from her residence in Ajjarakad to her office in Rajathadri. ADC Vidya Kumari, whose house was located close to DC’s residence in Ajjarakad, boarded the same bus.
They were accompanied by other district-level officials of various departments who boarded the bus en-route.
The bus stopped at the City Bus Stand, MGM College Road to pick up other officials who were waiting for the bus.
All officials returned home by shunning their official vehicles and spreading the message of emitting less carbon and protecting the environment.
Korlapati said it was not cumbersome to travel by bus and urged everyone in Udupi to leave their private vehicles behind and use public transport whenever time and occasion permits. She boarded the bus near her residence at 9.30 am and reached the office by 9.50 am.
