A delegation comprising representatives of Somwarpet Town Panchayat urged Deputy Commissioner Charulata Somal to initiate measures to take up comprehensive development of Somwarpet town.

The delegation met the deputy commissioner on Friday and submitted a memorandum to her. The delegation was led by Town Panchayat president Nalini Ganesh.

Special emphasis should be given to the development of Somwarpet town. There is a lack of staff at the government offices to respond to the woes of the people, said Nalini Ganesh.

Engineers and health inspectors are deputed to the Town Panchayat from other panchayats. They visit only twice a week. As a result, the development works are delayed, she added.

Nalini Ganesh said that there is a lack of space for the distribution of sites for the shelterless and poor. The district administration should sanction five acres of government land for the same.

The process of upgrading the Town Panchayat should be accelerated. Additional grants should be released for the development of the Town Panchayat. The compensation for the damage caused by the rain should be released at the earliest, she demanded.

The deputy commissioner responded positively to the demands.

Town Panchayat vice president Sanjeeva, standing committee president Jayanthi Shivakumar and others were present.
