For all those who are in a dilemma and unable to make up their minds, the panel of experts in the ‘Pre-Counselling Guidance for CET and COMED-K,’ organised by Deccan Herald and Prajavani in association with Acharya Institute of Technology at Town Hall on
Monday, gave solutions and a clearer picture on various educational courses.
K S Hegde Medical Academy Dean Dr Arunachalam Kumar introduced the students to the harsh realities of the medical world.
“The course should be taken only if one is dedicated and interested in doing it. It is not easy at is seems and is very expensive. One has to do many sacrifices and may not be able to enjoy life like students in other courses,” he said.
MBBS and BDS are not the only two streams in Medicine. One can choose paramedical courses, nursing, physiotherapy and pharmacy as there is a need for such professionals around the globe, he added.
Father Muller Medical College Dean Dr Sanjeev Rai gave students a brief idea on Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) and
informed about the various colleges which fall under the consortium.
He encouraged students to earn and learn by taking educational loans from various banks.
Principal of Srinivas Institute of Technology Professor Srinivas Mayya unveiled the vast opportunities one has in different streams of Engineering.
Explaining each of the branches in detail he spoke about campus recruitment and companies one can get into after completing engineering.
Sahyadri College of Engineering CET Counselling Cell Co-ordinator Shruthikeerthi Raja spoke on how the system of CET works. He asked the students to go through the brochure they received while applying for the CET carefully and reminded them to get a set of all their educational certificates attested.
Only one parent can accompany the student in the CET Cell, he said and added that the entire CET system is transparent and one can see CET counselling in other centres and know which student has been placed in which college as it will be published on the screen.
Be Smart
Earlier inaugurating the programme Fr Muller College Administrator Rev Fr Denis D’Sa advised students to be ‘Smart’ an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bomb.
Giving tips on achieving success, he said one should always look up to the skies and remember their goal than be scared by looking at their failures.
“The Pre-Counselling Guidance for CET and COMED-K, helped me a lot. I wanted to know the importance of Pharma D and the experts answered my doubts specifically, said Vrinda V Bhat a student of Expert PU College.
Sinan from Canara College feels that CET and COMED-K systems are good as one can get seats according to their ranking but regrets that too much time is given to answer CET after PU exams. “One should conduct CET within a week, so that students don’t forget the portion,” he adds.
“This session is done for the benefit of students who have answered CET and COMED-K. It gives an overview on different educational streams so that the students can take the right decision in the given time frame,” said Deccan Herald and Prajavani General Manager- Circulation Shivram Krishna.
The Pre-Counselling Guidance for CET and COMED-K which is going on since six years has already organised sessions in Hubli, Belgaum, Davangere and will be conducted in Mysore and Bangalore in the coming days, he informed.
