According to hospitals in the City, cases of diarrhoea, skin and respiratory tract infections are on the rise. For instance, there has been a marginal increase in diarrhoea cases reported in Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.

"There is around 10 per cent increase in the diarrhoea cases in adults during summer when compared to other seasons in the year,” said the hospital's resident medical officer Dr Rajanna. Drinking of contaminated water and consumption of roadside food are the main causes for the outbreak of these disorders, he said.

The Victoria Hospital too has reported a rise in cases related to skin infection,
gastroenteritis and piles in the past few weeks. In fact, we are expecting many such cases being referred to in the next two months,” said Dr B G Tilak, Medical Superintendent.

“Cases of people suffering from fungal infection, urinary tract infection, kidney stones, viral infection and rectal problems are also on the rise. Low water retention in the body and lack of moisture in the skin are the primary causes of these disorders," he said.

Dr Sanjiv Rao, consultant, Internal Medicine, Manipal Hospital, said that the universal motto that people should remember during summer season was 'boil it, wash it, peel it or forget it'. He said that people should avoid eating outside and drink plenty of water.
