It is a dream come true for Gangadharaiah Parameshwara, who has been aspiring for the post of deputy chief minister for quite some time. He was once projected as a chief ministerial candidate of the Congress and there were attempts to nominate him as deputy chief minister in the previous Siddaramaiah regime.

Parameshwara is the longest-serving KPCC president. As a student of the University of Agricultural Sciences-Bangalore, Parameshwara held the record of running 100m in 10.9 seconds. It looks like his political career is also on the fast lane now.

Qualification: BSc, MSc from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore; PhD in Plant Pathology from the Waite Research Institute of the University of Adelaide, Australia.

Political career: Appointed KPCC joint secretary in 1989, five-time MLA from Madhugiri and Koratagere, Higher Education minister in S M Krishna ghovernment, KPCC president since October 2010.
