The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) members staged a protest on Monday, at Pakkaladka against Mangaluru City Corporation for delaying completion of the road work between JM Road and Pakkaladka.

CPM leader Sunil Kumar Bajal said, “The concreting of the road covering half a kilometre stretch has not been completed for the last two and a half months. The delay in completing the road work has created inconvenience to the road users.”

The protesters said that the widening of the stretch from JM Road to Pakkaladka was taken up a year ago. A portion of the road comes under Kankanady ward and another portion under Alape South ward. In spite of entrusting the work on the road to two contractors, the work is moving at a snail’s pace.

The protesters said, “To take up the work on concreting the road, the movement of vehicles on the stretch was prohibited for the last two and a half months. Unfortunately, hardly any progress has been made on the work of concreting the road. As a result, the residents have to walk for a few metres to board the bus.”

DYFI Pakkaladka unit President Rithesh and Secretary Prakash Shetty demanded that the concreting of the road should be completed at the earliest and the road should be opened for traffic.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to MCC officer Ganapathi, who met the protesters on the occasion.

DYFI Dakshina Kannada district secretary Santhosh Bajal and others were present.
