With the state government launching English medium schools from this academic year, the teachers in the district have hit the roads for drawing students to such schools.
The teachers of the schools where English medium classes will begin this year have launched a door-to-door campaign to woo parents admit their wards to their schools. They are convincing the parents about the facilities available in the state-run English medium institutions. A handbill with information on the benefits made available to students at these schools are also being distributed. According to the handbill, “convent-like” education, free textbooks and uniform, midday meals, scholarship, shoes, tie and belt would be provided to students of government’s English medium schools.
The most interesting part is that teachers are canvassing about schools in autos - akin to electioneering. Holding a mike in their hands, the teachers speak about the facilities available at the English schools, drawing the attention of the people.
The state government has come up with the idea of launching English medium schools with the idea of competing with private schools. A total of 16 such schools will be set up in Ramanagara district and the admissions for Class 1 have already begun.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction Gangamaregowda said that English medium classes will commence in the existing schools. “Teachers required for English medium too have been deputed. The government will provide infrastructure for these schools in a phased manner.”
Keshappa Naik, the headmaster of government primary school in Aijuru village said that there had been good response from the parents for the English medium classes. He said four students had already secured admission in his school.
