The Congress is opposing ‘One Nation, One Election’ (ONOE) because it is dejected after having lost a string of polls, Home and Law Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Thursday.
“Pranab Mukherjee himself had earlier spoken about the need for ONOE. The issue is being widely discussed across the country. Congress is losing everywhere. They are opposing ONOE because they’re dejected. Until 1967, it was ONOE. Congress derailed this system with ulterior motives. They don’t want any initiative contributing to the country’s welfare,” Bommai said.
Further, Bommai said the case filed against Congress’ Bhadravathi MLA B K Sangamesh and his family was still in the interrogation stage. “We’re willing to respond to this in the Assembly. They (Congress) will be given an opportunity to raise the issue. There is no question of registering cases against anyone for personal vendetta. The cases have been registered based on some instances there. No matter what, it doesn’t justify him removing his shirt in the Assembly,” he said.
