Speaking to mediapersons after participating in the World Environment Day celebrations here on Sunday, he said the decision has been taken in the wake of complaints that students from rural areas were being deprived of English education.
Local elected representatives have been asked to visit schools on July 5 as part of the efforts to enhance the quality of education. They have been requested to remain in the schools till 3 pm, he added.
Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will visit the school on the day, he added.
The programme has been adopted to increase the quality of education in government schools and to ameliorate child labourers, the minister said.
