Beneficiaries of various government schemes shared their grievances with PWD and District In-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa at Jana Mana, an interaction programme, held here on Thursday.
They complained that the tarpaulins provided under ‘Krishi Bhagya’ scheme for artificial ponds are substandard in quality.
The interaction programme provided a chance for the farmers to air their problems.
Ravikumar, a farmer from Channarayapatna, explained that he has two farm ponds and the water collected during the rain is utilised for agricultural purpose and not even a drop of water is being wasted. “But due to substandard quality of tarpaulins distributed, the water is being wasted. Instead of supplying tarpaulins, give us subsidy, we will buy
the tarpaulin from reputed companies,” Ravikumar suggested.
Though the sharing of expenses is 80:20 according to the scheme, the final expenditure comes to around 65:35. So, the minister should reduce the burden on the farmers, he appealed.
Yathish from Arsikere said, “We do not want Anna Bhagya or Krishi Bhagya. Give them to the poor. Free us from the harassment of middlemen”.
The farmers struggle to grow pomegranate and tomatoes. But in the last moment, middlemen surface and it is inevitable to pay them 10 per cent commission, he complained.
