Paints and hardware material worth Rs 10 lakh was completely gutted in a fire mishap at Muddalli Traders shop on HM Road here on Thursday.
Fortunately, no casualty was reported in the incident. At 10.50 am, a few passersby who noticed smoke billowing out of the second floor of the shop, informed the staff about the fire.
Firemen, led by the District Fire Officer Basavaprabhu Sharma, managed to douse the fire in a few hours.
Basavaraj, a worker, told DH, “There was no power for best part of the morning. It came at around 10.45 am. A while later, a few passersby informed us about the fire on the second floor. We ran out of the shop. We do not know what triggered the fire. The extent of the loss is not known yet.”
The incident led to traffic jams on Binny Mill Road for a while as hundreds gathered to witness the blaze.
