The construction work of Thokkottu flyover will be completed before April 10 and that of Mahaveer (Pumpwell) flyover before May 31, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said on Thursday.
“Vaibhav Dange, secretary of Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari, has warned of action if Navyug company does not stick to the schedule. The company has agreed to complete the service roads at Mahaveer and Thokkottu Junctions before March 15,” Kateel told media persons after a review meeting with NHAI officials organised at Taj Gateway Hotel.
He said the Navyug company, which bagged the contract of widening the NH 66 in 2012, has completed the bridges at Pavanje and Ullal in record time. But the work on flyovers dragged on for years due to the delay in acquiring land by district administration. There was pressure on NHAI officials to change the design of flyover due to the proposed bus stand near Mahaveer Circle, he added.
“The Navyug company suffered losses and thus began collecting toll. The toll collection drew the ire of public. The fund-starved company will receive Rs 55 crore as loan from banks to complete the flyover works. The Centre will release an additional Rs 7 crore to help Navyug company complete the work on service roads before the deadline,” he said.
MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Bharath Shetty, Umanath Kotian, Rajesh Shetty and others were also present in the meeting. Earlier, Vaibhav Dange, accompanied by the MP, inspected the flyover work and set a deadline to complete the Pumpwell flyover work before May 31.
