Speaking to presspersons, he said the Bill will help in distributing rice at Rs 3 per kg and wheat at Rs 2 per kg for BPL families in the country.

“Ombudsman and private agency will be strengthened to make a study on the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. If there was no proper implementation of MGNREGS, then measures will be taken to set right the loopholes,” he added.

“The issue of undertaking work with the help of machines in MGNREGS, lack of interest among the labourers have been brought to my notice. I have already asked Youth Congress leaders to provide information on the misappropriation in MGNREGS in the district,” he said.

He said the number of job card holders in MGNREGS will help us getting details on the BPL families in the country. In the first phase, MGNREGS was implemented in 200 districts. In the second phase it was implemented in 350 districts, he added.

Delegation

A delegation of growers will be taken to Commerce and Finance Minister to solve the problems faced by the coffee growers.

Fernandes said that the Youth Congress membership drive has concluded. Rahul Gandhi wants to bring more youth into the folds of Congress. Training will be provided to youth on their role in politics.

To a query on whether youth will be given ticket in the elections, he said “while allotting tickets, we will consider experience and service.”
