H D Kote (Mysuru dist): An outsourced forest watcher of the anti-poaching camp was killed in a wild jumbo attack at Gundre forest area of Bandipur National Park in the taluk on Sunday. Shashank (25) of N Begur village is the deceased.

Forest guards Shashank and Raju were on patrol duty near Jaguru on Sunday evening, when the jumbo attacked them and threw them into the water body nearby.

Raju, who escaped from the elephant, alerted the department officials. Gundre range forest officer Amrutesh and other personnel visited the spot and retrieved the body of Shashank.

MLA Anil Chikkamadu said that the kin of the deceased would be provided a compensation of Rs 30 lakh by the government.The Antharasanthe police have registered a case.
