Mangaluru: Former MLA Mohiuddin Bava’s brother Mumtaz Ali (52) has gone missing while his car was found near Kuloor bridge in Mangaluru on Sunday morning.

The fire and emergency service personnel have rushed to the spot and are carrying out search operations in the river.

The Panambur police said that they received information about a black BMW found near the Kuloor Bridge which was found damaged. Upon visiting the location, they discovered that the car belongs to Mumtaz Ali.

Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal, former MLA Mohiuddin Bava visited the spot where search operation is in progress. A large number of people too have gathered near the river where search is in progress.

Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal said it is suspected that Mumtaz Ali has jumped from the bridge. According to preliminary investigation, he left the house at 3 am and drove across the city. At 5 pm, he stopped the car at Kuloor bridge.

There are accidental marks on the car. After the car was found parked and went missing, his daughter visited the spot and informed the local police, and the investigation is under way. SDRF, Coast Guard teams are searching in the river and trying to find out whether he has jumped into the river, said the commissioner.
